lol, if you read the reports of that so called piece of journalism and noticed the inconsistencies in everything they wrote, plus the fact they never did reply back to CiG who wrote a number of articles to them, shows that they based their story off lies by a disgruntled ex employee and derek smart who is someone who is jealous that this game has managed to hit the heights it has and all of his games have been fails, also you may notice that since this story went live star citizen has gained an extra $5M and over 100,000 new backers, sounds like it either A it backfired, or B this is a very clever marketing ploy. it seems like A is the probable cause because Corporate at Defy Media asked CiG to delay publication of their response letter while investigating the matter, since they started investigating the escapist has not printed any further allegations, proving they could not substantiate their claims and defy media has probably told them to quit as any lawsuits against the escapist will affect defy media, who is the controlling company for the escapist. as for me, i dont care, its already proven to show that their is a demand for space games again and im happy backing it, if you dont want to, thats fine by me no one told you to or is forcing you

Interesting. Not being a techie or game developer, 90 million seems like a lot of money, would go a long way in most other businesses. Any ideas on how much money it has taken to develop AW, Wot or War Thunder to the stages they are at? A "closed end" scenario game like Battle Academy or other Slitherine products; how much would be "normal" to spend on a title?

GTA V all said and done ran Rockstar 265M USD to make. Not sure what the breakdown is of pure code work vs all the extra business stuff like ads and retail.
100M is a lot, no doubt, but I'm sure they'll need plenty more and a steady stream over the coming years to make the game reach its desired end state. A long and bumpy road awaits, but its exciting to watch such a grand game come together.

gta v used the old gta 4 engine but they cleaned it up so they saved a chunk of money on that, SC rewrote the entire cryengine engine as it wasnt able to effectively produces the maps on the size they wanted, so that has impacted a little on the cost for them, with sales once the game goes live and upto then i think we could see a total of around 2-300M from this game, over 1m people have registered, but only 30% or so have actually pledge any money to it
